Chapter 01 · The brief
A platform, not a prototype.
VZU Build started with a brief from a property management operator in Vancouver. 800 units. 12 staff. A legacy platform that had been built in 2018, never updated, and was now breaking under the weight of a 5x growth in portfolio size. The platform couldn't handle 12 concurrent users. The platform couldn't generate reports without timing out. The platform was the operator's daily reality: a slow, fragile, unmaintained stack of point solutions.
The brief from the operator was specific: build a new platform. Multi-tenant. Real-time. Mobile-first. A platform that the operator's staff would actually use. A platform that the operator's tenants would actually like. A 6-month build. A 12-month payback on the operational savings.
The hardest part wasn't the engineering. The hardest part was that the platform had to be the operator's platform — not VZU's platform. The data, the auth, the deployment, the audit trail. The operator owns the goal. VZU ships the work. The platform is the operator's posture: unbound.
Chapter 02 · The work

The platform shipped in 6 weeks. Multi-tenant. Real-time. Mobile-first. The operator's staff went from 12 to 8 (because the platform was actually usable). The operator's tenant satisfaction went from 64% to 91%. The operator's monthly operational cost went from $48k to $32k. The payback was 4 months.
